31 July 2026High-tech solution for an aeroacoustic wind tunnel

G+H Schallschutz carried out the comprehensive acoustic optimisation of the plenum area of the Braunschweig Aeroacoustic Wind Tunnel, which is operated by the German Aerospace Centre (DLR).
The project was based on detailed preliminary investigations carried out at our Acoustic Competence Centre (ACC), during which extensive measurements were taken. On this basis, our experts developed a bespoke wedge lining made of melamine resin. With a cut-off frequency of 125 Hz, this solution significantly exceeded the original target of 150 Hz.
As part of the refurbishment, the plenum was fully lined with the newly developed wedge-shaped lining. In addition, the project team replaced the acoustic linings of the nozzle and the collector and fabricated special covers for sockets and cable penetrations to systematically minimise acoustic weak points.
A final acoustic acceptance test in the wind tunnel confirmed the high effectiveness of the measures implemented and the lasting success of the acoustic optimisation.
